Dentro de cada articula\u00e7\u00e3o existe um disco cartilaginoso para facilitar os movimentos, altamente protegido por ligamentos onde, dentre todas as articula\u00e7\u00f5es do corpo, se concentra o maior n\u00famero de termina\u00e7\u00f5es nervosas indicando o grau de sua import\u00e2ncia. \u00c9 a articula\u00e7\u00e3o mais requisitada do corpo, respons\u00e1vel pelos movimentos da boca (mastiga\u00e7\u00e3o, degluti\u00e7\u00e3o e fona\u00e7\u00e3o).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apesar de serem apenas quatro o n\u00famero de m\u00fasculos diretamente envolvidos no movimento desta articula\u00e7\u00e3o (temporal, masseter, pterig\u00f3ideo lateral e pterig\u00f3ideo medial), a ATM faz parte de um sistema maior e complexo chamado Sistema Estomatogn\u00e1tico (articula\u00e7\u00e3o da boca), que envolve todas as estruturas relacionadas com a mastiga\u00e7\u00e3o, degluti\u00e7\u00e3o, fona\u00e7\u00e3o, respira\u00e7\u00e3o; e o Sistema Craniossacral.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Portanto, ao tratarmos do assunto ATM, n\u00e3o podemos pensar apenas na boca.
